Lake Bled in autumn
Crisp air, autumn foliage, morning mist rising from the lake and cooler temperatures – autumn comes to Lake Bled in September and stays until the end of November. The colour of the lake changes with the seasons, along with the vegetation around its shores.
As autumn approaches, the trees turn golden yellow and warmer colours spread around the lake. Bled also becomes quieter again after the busy summer months.
Lake Bled in autumn is for romantics. And even if you do not consider yourself one, its autumn colours might awaken that side of you.

Warm colours naturally draw the eye, which is one reason Lake Bled is so popular with landscape photographers. Below is a collection of photographs I took while walking around the lake in autumn.
A walk around Lake Bled in any weather
Families with children, active seniors, young couples or people walking their dogs all find their own pace around Lake Bled. Whatever the weather or the season, completing another circle always feels good.
Walk the full circle around Lake Bled or simply enjoy a short stroll. The route follows a mix of gravel paths, wooden walkways and pavements. The full loop is about six kilometres long and takes around an hour and a half at a relaxed pace.

As you walk around the lake, you will pass several sights, including Bled Island and its church with the wishing bell.
Along the way, you can follow the path above the lake to Bled Castle or explore Slovenian Square below the castle cliff, home to St Martin’s Parish Church and the Old Parish House.
Around the lake, you will pass historic buildings and long-established hotels, including Grand Hotel Toplice and Villa Bled with its park where you can enjoy autumn colours.
You can also hike to one of the hills above the lake, such as Ojstrica, Mala Osojnica or Straža to see the autumn scenery from above.
